Suspected Unapproved Parts – M&M International Aerospace Metals

Applicability:

All aircraft.

Purpose:

The purpose of this notification is to advise all aircraft owners, operators, maintenance organisations manufacturers and parts suppliers of aircraft raw material that may be sold with incorrect material certification.

Background:

The FAA have advised of an investigation they carried out which revealed that M&M aerospace metals (M&M) located at 1382 West McNab Road Fort Lauderdale FL33309 may have knowingly sold aircraft raw material that did not meet the applicable Mil Spec. The investigations reveals that M &M may have deliberately altered material certifications to meet customer requirements when they the material did not meet the full requirements.

Recommendation:

To ensure aircraft structures are capable of withstanding expected design loads, aircraft owners. Aircraft owners, operators, maintenance facilities parts suppliers and manufacturers should check there records to determine if raw material was purchased from M&M Inc. Certification supplied with material purchased from M&M should be examined for evidence of alteration. If any doubt exists it is recommended the original material certificate supplier be contacted fro verification, or independent test to confirm the material specification. Parts determined to have been made from non-conforming stock will require an engineering analysis to verify there safe use.
