The Civil Aviation Authority’s Deputy Chairperson, Steve Haszard, has resigned from the Board effective from 6 October 2023.

Mr Haszard will shortly take up an interim role of Chief Executive Office for WorkSafe New Zealand.

CAA Board members are appointed by the minister to represent the public interest in civil aviation. The appointment of a new Deputy Chair will not be made by the Responsible Minister until after the election.

In accordance with s5(2) of Schedule 5 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, the Board intends to appoint a temporary Deputy Chairperson from its membership. This is expected to be confirmed at the upcoming Board meeting on 19 October 2023.

CAA Board Chairperson Janice Fredric acknowledged Steve’s contribution to the Board and the Authority.

“Steve has been a valuable member of our team and we thank him for his expertise and commitment to aviation safety in New Zealand.”
