Print version: Adjust cockpit dimmer controls [PDF 1.7 MB]

Issued 2014

Investigations into two commercial helicopter accidents in the previous two years have identified a significant common factor; the annunciator panel lights were not adjusted to a visible level. Crews should ensure when preparing to fly the aircraft; that the dimmer controls are set to suit the operational situation.

Crews regularly operating in differing helicopter types and type variants are reminded to ensure they re-familiarise themselves on the cockpit layout. Maintaining a ‘sterile cockpit environment’ aids during pre-flight checks, ensuring dimmer adjustments are made.
